Silk Hope - Spiral a la Andrea

The Andrea-style spiral finishes the turban with a compact silk rosette at the side of the head. It is made by twisting the two long points into one firm strand.

What you will need

  • a 90 × 90 cm square silk scarf
  • a mirror
  • Time: about 3 minutes

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Place the scarf and join the points at the side. Fold the scarf into a triangle, position the long edge above your forehead and spread the fabric over the crown. Take the two long points to the same side of your head and tie them just above the nape.

  2. Twist them into a strand. Twist both points firmly together in one direction until they form a long silk strand.

  3. Create the spiral. Coil the twisted strand around its base into a flat rosette at the side of your head.

  4. Tuck away the end. Push the final point beneath the spiral and even the rosette with your fingers. Finish by smoothing the scarf around your head.

Tip

Keep the strand under tension while you twist it. If you release it before the end is tucked in, the spiral can loosen.
