Silk Hope - Turban a la Maria
The Maria-style turban covers the hair and creates a soft decorative knot above the forehead. It works best with a 90 × 90 cm square silk scarf.
What you will need
- a 90 × 90 cm square silk scarf
- a mirror
- Time: about 3 minutes
Step-by-step instructions
Position the scarf. Place its centre over your head so it covers your hair and the back edge sits at the nape. Bring the two opposite points forward above your forehead.
Create a firm base. Cross and twist the points once above your forehead. Pull them gently to the sides to smooth the scarf around your head.
Tie the knot. Cross the points again and tie them in a loose knot directly above your forehead.
Start shaping the decoration. Wrap one point around the centre of the knot and tuck its end beneath the loop you have created.
Hide the second point. Lift the longer point, fold it over the knot and tuck its tip inside.
Finish the turban. Use your fingers to open the knot into a soft rosette. Smooth the scarf around your head and check the back edge at the nape.
Tip
If the scarf slips, tighten the first twist above your forehead a little more. Shape the decorative knot gently afterwards to avoid creasing the silk.
